Devin Olsen explains how the techniques he has used to become a repeat medalist in fly fishing competitions can be adapted to everyday fly fishing situations. He covers strategies, tactics, and flies for rivers, small streams, and still waters, allowing anyone to fish more successfully by applying the approaches taken by competitive anglers. While competitions don't appeal to all anglers, they have brought an array of technique and gear advancements to the sport. These include beadhead nymphs, a focus on long lightweight rods, unique fly patterns, Euro-nymphing styles, and fly line designs.
Competitions force successful anglers to refine every piece of gear they use and every approach they make on the water. Even if you have no competitive fly angling aspirations, you can be more successful on the water if you incorporate lessons, approaches, and techniques from competitive anglers into your own fishing.
In this book, author Devin Olsen, who has been a member of the US fly fishing team since 2006, shares tactics, techniques, and strategies that he has learned from top anglers around the world.
