Beschrijving
Situated on the lower slopes of the North Downs in South London, Sutton is the principal town of the eponymous London borough. Recorded in the Domesday Book as Sudtone, the town formed part of Surrey until local government reorganisation in 1965, when Sutton became part of London. Today, Sutton is a major commercial and residential area. Along with its grand Victorian and Edwardian buildings, there are many green spaces and churches, several of significant historical interest. Featuring over 90 old photographs from the borough archives, Sutton Through Time is a unique and permanent photographic record of a changing town. Focusing on Sutton town centre and the surrounding residential neighbourhoods, author and historian Roland Sparkes tells the story of the South London town's past and present. This volume will be of interest to anyone who is curious to find out more about Sutton's past.
