The Berlin State Ballet School is unique in Germany, because it combines a general school education with professional training. Die Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin ist in Deutschland einzigartig, weil sie eine allgemein-schulische Ausbildung mit einer professionellen Berufsausbildung verbindet. Für den Um- und Neubau der Schule war ein Entwurf gefragt, der die fließende Bewegung zwischen Tanz und Schule ebenso berücksichtigt wie das dynamische Bewegungsmoment des Tanzes selbst. Außerdem sollte das neue Erscheinungsbild das hohe internationale Renommee der Einrichtung adäquat widerspiegeln. Mit anderen Worten: architektonische und ideelle Identität mussten deckungsgleich gemacht werden.
Im vorliegenden Band präsentieren die verantwortlichen Architekten den Bau in Text und Bild, ergänzt durch eine Besprechung des Architekturjournalisten Falk Jaeger. Das Bild wird abgerundet durch Stimmen der Nutzer, die den Bau ästhetisch wie funktional jeden Tag erleben.
