Hi-tech industries that focus on developing patterns of innovation as part of their management strategies can increase their competitiveness. However, this synergy between knowledge and experience and its resulting creativity can make them targets for takeover bids. This though destroys the continuity that is often an important factor in successful innovation processes and as they become integrated into larger and larger conglomerates, they lose the advantages which made them attractive in the first place.
