These conference proceedings present studies on the conflict-ridden coexistence of the peoples of Iron Age Central Europe under the influence of external political factors

Recent French research on the Battle of Orange/Arausio in 105 BC has led to a paradigm shift and ideas of large-scale mobility must be re-examined. This has brought study of the 2nd century BC to the forefront – an era of widespread innovation, the emergence of industrial centres and oppida, and high levels of mobility. Events such as the Roman conquest of Provence and the movement of the Cimbri and Teutons towards the Roman borders shook Central Europe to the core.
