When Alex Faulkner uncovers a centuries-old secret in the attic of his Yorkshire boarding school, he is drawn into a mystery stretching all the way from the English Civil War to a present-day conspiracy that threatens to plunge Britain into a political crisis.

When thirteen-year-old Alex Faulkner stumbles across a hidden chamber in the attic of his Yorkshire school, Red House, he finds a skeleton, a trunk and a locket containing two portraits – one of a woman from the seventeenth century, the other bearing his own face.

Decades later, Nigel Pride – the head boy who once ruled the school through fear – is on the brink of seizing control of Britain. Standing against him is Rebecca Vavasour, the woman who believes Red House was stolen from her family centuries ago. The proof is in the secret chamber Alex discovered all those years ago – and it could threaten an entire royal dynasty.

From the English Civil War to a nation once again on the brink of tyranny, Cavalier explores how the past shapes the present, and what one man is willing to sacrifice to defend freedom.
